We’re a diverse bunch at Improved Apps and we enjoy sharing a story or two… our news… and views… over a cup of coffee or around the water cooler (and an occasional beer!)

So, we thought why not share a few of our newly discovered noteworthy news stories, fascinating facts, helpful hints, as well as the things that have made us smile or simply laugh out loud.

As our apps support the entire gamut of Salesforce users from sys admins to sales reps; from marketing managers to business analysts and from trainers to support staff, (and bearing in mind we’re all human), we hope that there is something of interest to everyone.

How to respond quickly to web leads and make it count

According to InsideSales, sales teams are still finding it difficult to respond quickly to website leads…this article discusses the problem and the ineffectiveness of autoresponder emails:

Sales teams are clearly still struggling to respond quickly to website leads. InsideSales.com Labs’ latest research shows sales leaders are trying to address this problem by relying on automated emails.

While autoresponder emails go out much more quickly — they were sent 6,165% faster on average than personalized emails in our latest ResponseAudit study — they are much less effective than personalized emails and telephone follow-up.

The groundbreaking research we conducted several years ago in conjunction with Dr. James Oldroyd — published in the Harvard Business Review — revealed that you are 100 times more likely to contact a lead and 21 times more likely to qualify it if you call within 5 minutes than if you wait 30 minutes. Did you see this year’s Halloween “doodle” from Google?

In the doodle you had to grab your wand and help fend off a ghostly catastrophe…press play to swipe spells, save your friends, and help restore the peace at the Magic Cat Academy – read about it’s conception and reach here.

It was lots of fun… but make no mistake, very useful (as ever) to Google. If you want a way to gather lots of data (about user gestures/character recognition in this case) this is a great way to gather it!

The importance of humility

Check out this article: ‘These four words that may offend you … may also just save you’ by Dr. Louis M. Profeta, an emergency physician practicing in Indianapolis.

It’s an interesting read for those of us at risk (as we all are) of imagining that our work – that of soldiers…firemen…bankers…software engineers – is of more intrinsic value than the next person’s…

Here’s a snippet:

“What do you do for a living,” the young man asked me.

“I’m an emergency physician. How about you?”

“I’m just a chef,” he replied.

“Pal, I can live a lifetime without medicine. I can only live a week without food.”
